These pages instruct you step-by-step how-to setup your email account in Microsoft Outlook Express.  If you can locate any information about your email account, please do before starting.

 

  1. Start Outlook Express, You do this by left clicking the ‘Start Button’, then selecting ‘Programs’, then ‘Outlook Express.’
  2. Outlook Express should be open in front of you. (See Fig.1)
  3. Using your mouse select ‘accounts’ located under ‘Tools’.  Tools is located on the top of the window, between ‘View’ and ‘Message’

  1. After selecting ‘accounts’ under ‘tools’ you should have a window similar to the one below.
  2. You need to select the tab ‘mail’ in this window.
  3. You now want to ‘add’ a new email account.  Left click the ‘add’ button located on the top right with your mouse. (See Fig.2)

  1. The ‘Internet connection Wizard’ is now open in front you. Type in your name, or what ever you would like your display name to be.  You can type any thing you like. Then click ‘next’ (See Fig.3)

  1. Now enter your email address. And click ‘next’ (See Fig.4)

  1. Select your type of email server on the top of the widow.  Most users will have a POP3 server. If you are not sure what type of server you have select POP3. (See Fig.5)
  2. Enter your incoming email server. (See Fig.5)
  3. Enter your outgoing email server.  (See Fig.5)
  4. Click ‘Next’

How do I finding-out the name of my email servers: If you do not know your email servers’ name, perform a search for “email settings” on your ISP’s website. Internet Service Providers’ will list email settings on their support page.  Or go to www.google.com and type the name of your ISP along with “email settings” and/or “pop access”

13. Now enter your email account name, this is usually your full email address.  Some times you    only need to enter you account name without the “@yourISP.net” Example: if your email address is johndoe@comcast.net, then you would only enter “johndoe”

14. Enter the password for your email account

15. Click ‘next’ the Congratulations window should now be open.  To finish the Internet connection Wizard just click on ‘Finish’ (See Fig.7)

16. Test Outlook Express; Sent your self a email and then see if you can receive that email.  If you receive a error message please see trouble-shooting Outlook Express.
