Configuring Wireless Security
Settings on Windows XP

This help file gives step by
step instructions for connecting to a Secure Wireless Network.
- Start off by double clicking the “Network
Connections” applet in the “Control Panel”.
- To do this left click the “Start” menu,
select “Settings”, then select “Control Panel”.
- A picture of what your "Network
Connections” may look like is below.

- We now need to configure the properties of
your wireless connection.
- Right Click the “Wireless Network Connection”, See picture above.
- Select “Properties”
- After you open the properties of your
wireless connection you should see a screen similar to the one below.

- Check the box “Use Windows to configure
my wireless network settings”.
- Now look at the bottom of your wireless
network connection’s properties, pictured below. If you see you wireless
network list, just double left click-it.
- If you
do not see your network, left click the “Add” Button.

- By double-clicking your network or by clicking
the “Add” button you will open the window pictured below.

- Before you can enter your information, you
must un-check “The key is provided for me automatically”
- Enter your Wireless Settings you were provided.
Lan-Sol labels your Wireless Router with the
required “Settings”.
Your invoices also have your settings listed.
- “Network name (SSID):
- “Network Authentication:”
Most Wireless network setups use “Open”
Some network setup by Lan-Sol have “Shared”
authentication. Some home networks may
use “Open” authentication.
Typically you should enter “WEP”
- Enter your “Network key:”, and “confirm
network key:”
This “Network key” may be labeled as “WEP KEY:” OR
“SHARED KEY:” on your Wireless Router
- Double check the “key index (advanced):” All
most every wireless network use key index 1.
- Double check all your settings, then click
“Ok”
Enter the settings label on your Wireless Router.
- You’re done configuring your security setting;
Windows should pop-up a message informing you of your connection.
